After several months of planning and organisation, Bike Pure are delighted to officially launch our Development team in the UK.

The team will be known as Bike Pure – LeMond – Aspire Velotech and provide support to the new UK based squad. Consisting of six of the UK’s most promising junior riders, they will be making their debut on the British Cycling calendar in Bike Pure – LeMond – Aspire Velotech colours.

The team will be managed by Karl Nielsen the European Lead for Bike Pure who will also structure race and training calendars for the riders.

Karl said “This is an exciting project not only for the girls but for myself too. Bike Pure is passionate about rider development and women’s cycling, and this is a great opportunity to try new methods of development.” He adds “Development of riders needs to be both on and off the bike. Our junior women have to juggle their educational aspirations as well as their cycling ones, and add to the mix a quality family and social life, these next two years are busy and fundamental to their futures”

Bike Pure is also adding a rolling programme of substance education and personal rider substance recording that Karl has developed. He says “With this programme, and method of recording riders’ personal data at this stage in their careers, by the time they hit their senior years, they will be extremely aware and knowledgeable on areas of substance use and misuse in our sport”

The team will be racing in the National Road Race calendar, the Team Series and National Track events, as well as Cyclo-Cross during the winter.

The ethos behind Bike Pure is to promote sporting ethics and integrity and Bike Pure feel that this is a fantastic opportunity to help get their message across to younger riders, the next generation of athletes and cycling fans in the UK.

The team’s principal goal isn’t simply about success but in providing a solid platform for it’s riders to understand the value of sporting values.

Co-Founder of Bike Pure, Andy Layhe said, “We are about to embark on an historic journey with our first venture into team cycling. With the valued support of our main sponsors LeMond Revolution and Aspire Velotech along with Bike Science UK, The Sufferfest, Sukkie Hydration, DeFeet and Lazer Helmets we hope to bring something new and exciting to the UK race scene.”

Layhe added, “We feel it’s very important we support grass roots cycling, notably women’s cycling and development whilst at the same time promoting sporting integrity at events up and down the UK. Our talented young riders will act as role models for Bike Pure and cycling fans up and down the country. Cycling has become very popular in the UK and this gives us a great opportunity to bring Bike Pure’s message closer to the masses.”

Layhe went on, “Funding for the team comes from our sponsors and the sale of items on our online store www.bikepurestore.org. We want our global membership to feel part of the team and in that respect if they purchase a Bike Pure item then the revenue goes to helping fund the girls in their support of their career and development.”

“Karl has been paramount in the formation and structure of the team and I’d like to thank him personally for having the same passion and drive for clean cycling that Bike Pure has shown since it’s inception.”

Bike Pure – LeMond – Aspire Velotech will compete in the UK’s major events and at the same time promote and distribute Bike Pure educational leaflets, packs and distinctive blue wristbands at events, ensuring that all cyclists can help play a part and have a role to play in the promotion of sporting ethics and integrity.
