John Tiernan-Locke (Endura Racing) put in the ride of his life to take two stage wins and the overall yellow jersey in the prestigious season opener the Tour of Méditerranéen in France last weekend.
The British rider won stage 1 and stage 4 of four day event. The final stage was shortened due to adverse weather conditions but this did nothing to dampen Tiernan-Locke’s impressive form to win the final stage by 17 seconds from Daniel Navarro (Saxo Bank) – enough to win overall.

Tiernan-Locke forms part of the impressive Endura Racing Team, joining the growing list of pro teams aligned to our organisation. John is no stranger to success having won the climbers jersey in last year’s Tour of Britain.
Speaking on the Endura Racing website after the event, John said “I was a bit nervous this morning, but it all went to plan today and the team did a great job keeping me in the right place to go for it at the end. We had to fight hard to keep out of trouble at the front of the bunch all day and at the bottom of the climb I was where I needed to be, so just went for it.
We wish to convey our well wishes to the whole team on a sterling performance and hope it continues throughout 2012. Well done lads!

I think it's marvellous that the UK now has riders recognised as amongst the best in the world (male and female). I am mortified at how few people recognise this fact. Riders like Jon have little chance of being recognised for their talent. In other countries he would be lauded; he would be looking at a future in a big team with opportunities for riding in the bigger races. I hope he gets the chance.
