Bobridge and Meyer Brothers have the Edge

Newly formed Australian team GreenEDGE have announced the arrival of talented young Aussie riders Jack Bobridge, Cameron Meyer and Travis Meyer. The trio are currently seeing out the end of their contracts with Garmin-Cérvelo where they all gained notable achievements. All three are also Bike Pure role models and part of the new generation of riders coming to the forefront in the sport. We are delighted that these guys align with Bike Pure and we wish them all the very best in the new team.

Bobridge is a former World U23 time trial champion, current Australian road race champion and earlier in the year broke Chris Boardman’s long standing world record world in the individual pursuit.

Speaking on Australia’s Adelaide Now website, Bobridge said, “At the Beijing Olympics I rode the team pursuit and we finished fourth, just outside the medals, which was pretty hard to take. GreenEDGE will give me the support I need to go to London in the best condition I can be to see if I can be part of the team pursuit squad that brings home gold.”

Cam Meyer is a five time world champion on the track and winner of this years edition of the Tour Down Under in Adelaide, whilst brother Travis, also a former Australian road race champion has been sidelined for the latter part of this season due to injury.

With youth on their side, the trio will certainly be a huge asset to the Green Edge set up. Garmin-Cérvelo DS Jonathan Vaughters had tried his hardest to keep hold of the riders but with their contracts due to expire at the end of the season he had a tough job on his hands. Speaking to Bike Pure today he said “They are all great talents and great people, I’m sure they will succeed at Green Edge.”

GreenEDGE general manager Shane Bannan is no stranger to the three Aussies having worked at the renowned Australian Institute of Sport, breeding ground for many of Australia’s top sporting talent. The team was launched at the 2010 Tour Down Under and are set to get the wheels officially rolling early in 2012. You can visit their official website at www.greenedgecycling.com
