Coaches Required to Assist Anti-Doping Study

By: , , Filed in: News

If you are a UK based coach and wish to play an active role in anti-doping then why not get involved in a new anti-doping education study being undertaken by Laurie Patterson, a Phd student at Leeds Metropolitan University, England.

The overall aim of the study is to assess the link between real-life coaches and their attitudes in relation to passing on relevant anti-doping information and knowledge to the athletes they coach. Issues raised by the study include how anti-doping education be improved between coach and athlete and if there is room for development in anti-doping education for coaches.

The study will involve three online based stages:

1. A pre-intervention questionnaire
2. Coaches using an existing anti-doping education tool (CoachTrue Elite – specifically designed for coaches by WADA)
3. A post intervention questionnaire. All information will remain strictly confidential during the study and it is hoped that many coaches will take part. The study will take approximately two to two and a half hours to complete all three stages, however Laurie acknowledges that coaches are busy people and is happy for the study to be conducted over a four week period at their convenience.

This study allows coaches to contribute to the development of anti-doping education, which will not only benefit the coaches themselves but the athletes they coach.

If you would be interested in taking part please email Laurie L.Patterson@leedsmet.ac.uk

Many thanks to Laurie for getting in touch about this worthwhile project, we wish her all the best with the study.
