BikePure rider Xavier Tondo passed away following an accident at his home. Xavier was the new hero of the anti-doping movement following his role in the recent police raids in Girona. An honest and decent rider, the 32-year-old turned professional in 2003 with Paternina.
He signed for Movistar at the beginning of this season, after an impressive 2010 campaign with Cervélo TestTeam where he finished 6th Tour of Spain.
The whole cycling community will miss Xavier Tondo Volpini, not only as a human but for his efforts to help the sport he loved. Very sad day. BikePure express their sincere sorrow at his passing. Thoughts are with his family, friends and team mates.

I had a chance to meet Xavier at Tour de Pologne and he appeared to be a genuinely friendly person, always available to the public. A true professional, his involvement in fight against doping speaks volumes both about him as a human being & his passion for the sport of cycling. These news come only little over a month after his victory at Castilla y Leon and it saddens me to think how much he could yet develop as a rider. He will be greatly missed by his fans. My sincerest condolences to his friends & family.

Xavier was not only a great rider but a great person himself. He had a passion for the sport of cycling and dedicated too. He inspired many people back in his home country as well as all over the world. He was a positive influence in the peloton. May his legacy live on and was an honor to have him part of the Bike Pure family. My thoughts and prayers are with family and friends. From me and the rest of the ambassadors in South Africa. Rest in peace!

I'm Portuguese, I've seen Xavi racing for a long time now... I'll never forget the year he won our Volta, he was one of the kindest people in the peloton. Life isn't fair sometimes. I still can't find the right words, but just wanted to say that all my thoughts go out to his family, friends, teammates and fans. Descansa en paz, Xavi.

DEP Xavi. A rider who fought for a long time to get to the top and looked like he was enjoying every minute when he was there. Thank you for the good times, of which there have been many. The kind of rider and character we, and the sport, need more of.
Jonas Bogaert 23.05.2011 at 05:53pm
He was an example of what's cycling all about. The love for the bike and the pleasure of riding. An example of true sportsmanship and commitment, slowly making his way to the top. He had the guts to say no and helping his sport. It's just so sad that it had to end like this. R.I.P.
