Get Cool New Clothing and Help Charity

By: , , Filed in: News

In August 2009, Dean & Russell Downing along with John Smith decided to start up a group with the aim of raising money for a chosen charity each year. “At our first attempt at a fund raising event, we teamed up with the Geoff Thomas foundation and were able to raise £3000. After this we realized that we had to make it an annual event, so in 2010 we choose the Danny Porter Foundation as our charity and were able to donate over £4000 to the foundation.” said John.

The charity now has their own clothing available, with the profit of all sales going directly to the nominated charity for 2011.

So if you need new kit and want to help charity contact John: outofthesaddle1@gmail.com

Russell Downing said: “I’m really excited about where we are going with Out Of The Saddle and the continued association with Bike Pure. Along with Dean and John, we all put a lot of effort into the running of our annual dinner as this comes in our off-season. But at the moment I’m spending a whole lot of time travelling and racing so it’s great that the guys back home are pushing everything forward in my absence.”

He continued: “We aim to get as many members as possible to get the Out Of The Saddle message forward. We want to show what cyclists can do off of the bike by raising money for good causes and also with our association with Bike Pure show everyone what we believe in, so anyone out there who wants to join, please get in touch.”

I totally agree with pure cycling but then Alberto Contador is holding the pink jersey in th Giro so what's the point of campaigning?

Hi Lads, it's Dom here. Wondering if I could get involved in your fundraising. I have raised over £53,000 in the last few years doing bikeathons (spinning bikes in Supermarkets / Meadowhall) that you maybe have seen / heard about. Could I also nominate Headway Rotherham to be a charity that you fundraise for as this is the one that helped me, my family and other brain injury survivors. Cheers and I look forward to you getting back to me Dom

The nominated Charity for 2011 is C-R-Y. There are working to raise awareness of Cardiac arrest in the Young. During the last 12 months we have had to come to terms with the deaths of 2 close friends. So we aim to raise as much as possible both with sales of the clothing and with our end of year charity fund raiser. We also intend to host social events in 2011 to promote this worthy charity. Yours in Clean sport. John Smith Club Secretary.
