If you are a BikePure supporter and will be visiting any UCI events during the 2011 season, please let us know. It is great to have a presence at these races and let the world know pro bike isn’t about doping. The real story of talent and hard work bringing victory is beginning to be told.
One of our Dutch ambassadors, Photographer Thomas van Bracht was at St Wendel for the World Cyclo Cross championships
“Whenever you mention the Cyclo-cross world championships, the first thing that comes in my mind is the Belgian supporters. This year was no different, there must have been ten thousands of them. But don’t forget the Swiss with their cowbells and Czechs.
As it was freezing in the morning and above zero in the afternoon, the race conditions changed by the minute. This meant a lot of crashes and a lot of mechanicals. Especially at the junior race the riders kept going down. The U23 race was totally different and very muddy.
The main event was on Sunday with both the women’s and the elite men’s race. You can really see that women’s racing is becoming more popular every year. The race was extremely hard with a semi-frozen surface with muddy parts. The fans were cheering so incredibly laud and were just shouting the girls forward. This apparently inspired bikepure rider Marianne Vos who was just in another league. And with two Bikepure cyclists in the top three this is a great result for our cause!
The big favourite for the elite race was of courseZdenek Stybar, but there were a lot of Belgian favourites as well. This really was a fast race and here you can really see the difference in wattage the riders produce compared to the U23 and the women. The leaders were so fast that almost half of the riders were lapped. In the final lap Stybarwent and got never caught, a brilliant ride!
Al is all it was a terrific weekend and all the Bikepureriders did really good! Oh and I almost forgot, but we signed up two elite riders from Canada: Derrick St John and Natasha Elliott. They both signed up immediately when I told them what we did. So next time you see them give ‘m a big cheer and thank them for their support!”
