Meyer Takes Major ProTour Victory

By: , , Filed in: News

Garmin-Cérvelo pro Cameron Meyer is celebrating winning the ProTour Tour Down Under today, his first major stage race success. Cameron, already a multi World Champion on the track boards, once again showed his talent as one of the most versatile riders of his generation by taking overall victory and a stage win along the way.

Fresh from the Aussie Championships where he took the National time trial title, Meyer showed maturity beyond his years by holding onto the leaders jersey during the final stage in Adelaide City Centre under sizzling temperatures of over 32 degrees.

Incidentally, Meyer’s victory is the first ProTour victory by a rider who forms part of our organisation. Both Cameron and brother Travis have been champions of Bike Pure since our early inception over two years ago.

Cam was interviewed by Beth Keats of The Bicycle Show radio programme shortly after his ride, “You’re the first rider under Bike Pure to win a ProTour race, how does that feel?”
“That feels great I didn’t know that!” Said Meyer,  “It’s great to be involved in Bike Pure and shows that us young generation especially at the TdU, we’re leading the way riding clean and it’s going well for cycling.”

Meyer represents a new breed of young riders who represent the future of cycling. Aged only 23 years, Meyer already has a string of World titles and Commonwealth medals to his name. He will clearly be a man to watch in future and with the possibility of a Tour de France start on the cards this year, the future is bright for the young lad from Perth, Western Australia.

Shortly after his ride Meyer put on Twitter, “Just goes to show that young cyclists like Ben Swift, Michael Matthews and myself can win as Bike Pure riders.”

Bike Pure also celebrated with Michael Matthews (Rabobank) and Ben Swift (Team Sky) winning, totaling four stage victories from the six! With Matthews and Swift also placing in the top 4 it has been a great start to the 2011 season. Cyclesport is often filled with negative stories of doping, at least we can celebrate the start of 2011 on a positive note. We wish to pass on our congratulations to Cameron on his victory and to all the pro riders who continue to support us.

Final Overall General Classification:
1. Cameron Meyer (Garmin-Cérvelo) 17:54:27
2. Matt Goss (HTC) @0:02
3. Ben Swift (Team Sky) @0:08
4. Michael Matthews (Rabobank) @0:09

We're seeing the future and my God it's a breath of fresh air to see these young guys winning major events. Well done Cameron and to Bike Pure for having the balls to induce change.
