Power of the Lens

One of the most evocative images of the 2010 road season for Bike Pure, was Lyne Lamoureux’s emotional picture of Daniel Holloway. Daniel had just won the US national criterium championships in Illinois, and was pulling on his national jersey when Lyne, a respected photographer on the pro circuit, captured just what it meant to become national champion.

We caught up with Daniel to see how the title had progressed his career as a young professional.

BP: Do you remember the feeling on the podium?

Daniel: When I was putting the jersey on everything went silent; it was a moment of calm. I knew I was capable of doing it, it was just a matter of when. I want to give a shout out and a thank you to Lyne at Podium Insight for taking such an awesome photo and all her support!

BP: Did the win change your aspirations for 2011?

Daniel: Not so much, I’ve always wanted to win races. It’s just making them at a higher level each year. Now with Kelly Benefit Strategies I have the opportunity to step up.

BP: Who is your best mate in the peloton?

Daniel: I don’t know if I have one. Lol. I always enjoy hanging with Tejay VanGarderen. We’ve spent a bit of time at the US National team house together and it’s non stop laughs with him.

BP: Whom do you admire most?

Daniel: My Parents. But on a non-personal level, I have to say Michael Jordan. He was such a hard worker, has tons of charisma and passion, classy, and killer style.

BP: What music do you like training to?

Daniel, if it is a mellow spin then some trip hop and mellow rap. If it’s a long day with intervals I put on trance and dub step. Makes the time go by quicker and helps get in a rhythm.

BP: Can you give the Bike Pure family an idea of your training in the pre season Jan-Feb?

Daniel: January is going to be big miles with some intensity added in most likely. Haven’t spoken with the coach yet about it for all the details. I have the Berlin six day and then right into a ten day team camp. The rest of Febrary will be getting dialed up to start the big racing.

BP: What advice would you give to a junior looking for a life as a professional cyclist?

Daniel: If you want it, go out and get it. Work hard, and work harder. Don’t burn bridges, it’s a small world and you never know where you’ll be in ten years looking for a team.

BP: What do you want from Santa?

Daniel: I’d love a Rolls Royce from the guy, or an Original Banksy piece………….., but I’d be pumped for some video games or shoes.

Thank you Bike Pure for the interview and everything positive your doing for the sport!!

After all the negative publicity our sport is getting, it is refreshing and heartwarming to see a real athlete- getting honest success. Go Dan!
