Australia’s Team Pursuit squad rode their way to a the world title tonight in Copenhagen. Bike Pure’s Josie Tomic formed part of the winning team along with Ashlee Ankudinoff and Sarah Kent, posting the fastest qualifying time earlier in the day over the 12 lap event. The Aussie trio lined up against the current World record holders Team GB whose squad consists of two riders part of Bike Pure – Joanna Rowsella and Lizzie Armitstead, along with Wendy Houvenaghel.
The Aussie trio pulled well and with an average speed of 53.532kmh (33.2mph) to take the Gold over the 3km distance with a time of 3:21.748. The story of the night though was from the New Zealand team, they broke the world record in the ride off for the bronze medal against the USA.
Meanwhile, in the mens individual pursuit, the predicted showdown between Australian Jack Bobridge and USA’s Taylor Phinney failed to materialise as Bobridge finshed 3rd in qualifying with a time of 4min:17.169. New Zealand’s Jesse Sergent set the fastest time and was rode off for the Gold with Taylor Phinney of the USA, with Phinney taking the final honors.

Bobridge rode strongly to get the 3rd place bronze medal, but will surely be disappointed with today’s ride after riding the second fastest time in history last February. Bobridge now forms part of the team pursuit squad when they take to the track on Friday for qualifying and what should be a great days racing on the track.
Myles has been at the track this week, speaking to riders and teams about Bike Pure. The feedback from riders, teams and cycling fans has been phenomenal. Hundreds of wristbands, some t-shirts and leaflets were handed out to the many people who have been present at the velodrome in Copenhagen. We’ll have a good selection of photos in the gallery section soon.
