South Africa’s Jay Thomson claimed one of the best victories of his career to date earlier today when he sprinted to win Stage 2 of the Tour de Langkawi from Kuala Terengganu to Chukai. Jay has been part of Bike Pure since we met him at the 2009 Tour of Ireland and is a strong advocate of our organization. He even wore two wristbands for the stage! Jay is part of the Fly V Australia pro team this year, but is representing his national team for the duration of Langkawi.

Jay escaped with two other riders at the 59km mark of the 180km stage, the trio working well to gain a maximum advantage of almost 8 minutes. At the line their lead was cut to a little over 3 minutes so one of the escapees was going to take the stage and leaders yellow jersey. Jay crossed the line, arms aloft, by more than a bike length over second placed Tobias Erler (Tabriz Petrochemical Cycling Team) who took the overall race lead. Jay sits in 3rd place overall, just seven seconds behind.
Yesterday’s stage 1 winner, young Michael Matthews (Team Jayco-Skins) took the bunch sprint for 4th place and he now holds 4th place overall.
