Russell Downing sprinted to his first victory in Team Sky colours earlier today with victory in Stage 2 of the prestigious Criterium International.
Downing was quick to dedicate the win to his Sky team mates who worked tirelessly in the closing kilometres to get Downing to the line in first position.
Today’s victory is Downing’s first since his great ride at last years Tour of Ireland and he’s finding his feet well in the Pro Tour team.
Speaking to us after today’s stage Downing said “Today’s stage has been a major target for me for some time, the team worked hard for me all day, I’m so pleased to win here.”
Next up for Downing is Scheldeprijs on 7th April followed by the Amstel Gold classic on 18th April. Russ is also down as a reserve for the Tour of Flanders but could well make the starting line up if his good form continues.
