Cameron Meyer Retains World Points Race Title

By: , , Filed in: News

Garmin-Transitions pro Cameron Meyer distanced himself from his nearest rivals with a blistering performance in the World Points race at Copenhagen tonight.

The 22 year old Australian and reigning World Champion was at the head of affairs throughout the 40km race. With points on offer every five laps Meyer was at the forefront for much of the event.

Two thirds into the race, Meyer found space between himself and the main group and put his time trailing skills to use by lapping the field and gaining another 20 points for doing so. From then on in his lead was not under threat and he regained his World title in fine style with 70 points.

There’s no major celebrating for now though, as Meyer now has to focus on the Team Pursuit along with his fellow Australians. The Aussie team go into the event as favorites and could well break the world record with many of the riders in top condition.

Final Standings:
Men’s Points Race Final
1 Cameron Meyer (Australia) 70pts
2 Peter Schep (Netherlands) 33pts
3 Milan Kadlec (Czech Republic) pts27
4 Chris Newton (Great Britain) 26pts
