Travis Meyer Takes Australian Road Title

By: , , Filed in: News

20 year old Travis Meyer has won the Australian Road Race title. Travis attacked a lead group of riders to take a solo victory, one of the best results of his career.

It’s been a spectacular week for the Meyer family, with older brother Cameron winning the senior elite Time Trial title on Wednesday.

Both riders now form part of Jonathan Vaughter’s Garmin-Transitions squad and he clearly has two jewels in the crown who have big future’s ahead of them. Both Cameron and Travis are already World champions on the track.

Speaking to the Cycling Australia website, an emotional Travis said “My first ever road national title and to do it in my first race in elite men, it is an unbelievable feeling,” said an emotional Meyer. “I can’t quite describe what it feels like. To win the road race after Cam’s just won the time trial, to have two national champions in the same team and in the same family, it is just unbelievable.” Travis went on, “People are going to know my name in the ProTour ranks just because I have got the jersey on, to win it after guys like Robbie McEwen, Stuart O’Grady, Matt Wilson, for me to be able to do that and I am only 20 in my first year on the ProTou it hasn’t quite sunk in yet.”

Bike Pure would like to congratulate Travis and all the riders who form part of Bike Pure who took medals in this weeks championships. Some will go on to ride the Tour Down Under next week and we wish them all the best.
